Communities In Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania to Recognize Leadership Circle Inductees

At our upcoming 40th Anniversary Gala, Communities In Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania (CISEasternPA) will honor and induct three individuals into their Leadership Circle. The newly created Leadership Circle acknowledges individuals who in the course of CISEasternPA’s 40 years, have provided transformational leadership, courage and enduring support for the mission of CIS. State Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne, Diane Scott, and Charlie Marcon will be recognized for their outstanding leadership, courage, and unwavering support of the nonprofit organization's mission. CISEasternPA is dedicated to providing students with a community of support, empowering them to succeed in school and in life. These three individuals have played instrumental roles in helping CISEasternPA achieve its mission and have contributed significantly to its growth and development.

Former Pennsylvania State Senator and current State Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne has long supported and advocated for CISEasternPA. At a crucial time in its history, he was introduced to the organization by another major supporter, Bob Lovett. Browne secured funding to help the organization continue and reinvest educational dollars into the City of Allentown and Allentown School District (ASD). The organization’s first major gift of $100,000 came through Browne, and he has continued to support the agency year after year by speaking at CISEasternPA events and inviting students to intern in his office.

Diane Scott, previous superintendent of ASD for nine years, was familiar with the CISEasternPA mission from her time working in schools in Philadelphia. She helped bring stability to the organization during unsure times and reinforced administrative support. She worked with her colleagues at ASD to give CISEasternPA an office space. During her time on the board, she helped to orient the organization and keep the mission at the forefront, even during uncertain times.

Local philanthropist and business owner Charlie Marcon has been involved with CISEasternPA since its reestablishment in Allentown in 1992. He was a board member in the 1990s and brought a new perspective on longevity to the board. He eventually served as board chair in the mid-2000s, when CISEasternPA had its own school: Success Academy. He turned his vast professional network into CISEasternPA supporters. His continued leadership and support were, and still are, instrumental to the growth of the organization.

“At Communities in Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania, we recognize that our mission cannot have nearly as large of an impact without our supporters, which is why we created the Leadership Circle,” says Tim Mulligan, president and CEO of CISEasternPA, about the program. “It serves a purpose for our organization and allows us to recognize those who have stood with us over the last 40 years. Pat Browne, Diane Scott, and Charlie Marcon are exemplary supporters of CIS, and we are excited to continue honoring more friends of our organization in the years to come.”

The inaugural Leadership Circle members will be honored at the CISEasternPA 40th Anniversary Gala on Thursday, October 26, 2023. More information can be found here.
